How to Use Player Variables

Reference player information using a dot after the opening brace: {.name}

Correct

  • {.age} — player's age
  • {.name} — their name
  • {.skill} — their skills
  • {.hair_color} — appearance

Won't work

  • { .age} — extra space
  • {age} — missing dot
  • {.family name} — space in name
  • {.age] — wrong bracket

Pro tip — write naturally

Weave variables into your story instead of listing them:

{.age} {.skill} {.hair_color}

At {.age} years old, {.name} is known for their {.skill} skill and distinctive {.hair_color} hair.

  • Language: Write adventures in English. More languages coming in the future.
  • Coherent story: Your adventure should make sense and flow logically from one part to the next.
  • Set the scene: Include rich descriptions of the world, characters, and setting.
  • Adult content: Enable the NSFW tag for mature themes, romance, or adult situations.
  • Cover images: Avoid violent, disturbing, or explicit imagery in your cover description.

Tips for Success

  • Check your variables — make sure they follow the {.word} format and are woven naturally into sentences.
  • Create original stories that invite players to explore and engage.
  • Avoid harmful stereotypes or offensive content. Foster inclusivity and respect.
  • Keep the story easy to follow, but open-ended enough to offer meaningful choices.
  • Polish your grammar, spelling, and writing for clarity.

How Adventure Review Works

When you submit, our AI system reviews your adventure against these guidelines. Most adventures are approved within minutes. If there's an issue, you'll be told what to fix.

Common reasons for revision

  • Player variables not formatted correctly (remember the dot!)
  • Story doesn't make sense or jumps around
  • Adult content without the NSFW tag
  • Cover image description is too graphic
  • Variables listed separately instead of woven into sentences

Gem Costs & Deposits

Some actions hold a deposit — gems you get back when your adventure passes review. Others are a fee, spent when the action happens. The rule of thumb: anything that goes to review is a deposit; anything instant is a fee.

ActionGemsWhat happens to them
Submit a new adventure400Deposit — held during review and across rejections, returned in full when your adventure is approved.
Resubmit after a rejection100Fee — spent on each retry. Your original 400 deposit stays held and still comes back when approved.
Update a published adventure100Fee — spent.
Publish a private adventure100Fee — spent. Passes an instant automated check instead of full review.
Edit a private adventureFreePrivate adventures are yours — edits are direct and never charged.
Make a private adventure public400Deposit — same as a submission: returned when approved, and retries after a rejection cost 100.

Example: an adventure rejected once and approved on the second try costs 100 gems total — you paid 400 + 100 and got the 400 deposit back.

Deletion & Anonymization

Published adventures cannot be deleted directly through the app.

  • Under 20,000 gems used: Request deletion by contacting support@fableai.app.
  • 20,000+ gems used: Deletion is unavailable, but you can request anonymization at support@fableai.app to unlink your identity.
  • Unlisting: Adventures with under 50,000 gems used can be unlisted from the app on your Published page. Unlisting is permanent — the adventure stays playable by direct link but leaves the public catalog and cannot be relisted.
